20 Facts About Me - #NurseBlogger
Even though I'm a day late, I came across the thread of Nurse Blogger for the #30daychallenge and I thought this would be a great place to get to know some other great nurse bloggers!
So here goes!
1. I've been practicing as a nurse for about 7 years now. The majority of my practice is working in palliative care.
2. I'm married to a handsome Dutch/Irish man. Celebrating 3 years married this August 1st <3
3. I have a passion of teaching others about fun facts in health care, usually on subject matter that is applicable to them - all to aim at making the people living on this planet a little bit wiser about their health. ;)
4. I am always working on a budget, which sucks, but one day soon I will be debt free!
5. I have 2 gorgeous dogs - Oppie and Buster. They hold a place in my heart next to my hubby.
6. Blogging is something new that I've been trying out for the past month or so. Going pretty good, slow and steady I suppose!
7. I LOVE eating good, healthy home-cooked foods. I eat salad almost every day because I love greens so much! <3
8. I live in an apartment in Toronto. When I was young I thought apartment living would be cool. Now I realize it just sucks. The view is ok though.
9. I love researching, and learning new things. I've been out of school for a while and since then I've taken random courses in class and online. ALL have been extremely impactful in my career success overtime.
10. I was awarded the very first Research Innovation Fellowship Program at my previous job, which opened the door for me to improve healthcare and move mountains at a different level in the healthcare system.
11. I am now a Clinical Quality Specialist at Think Research downtown Toronto. I get to participate in innovating projects across the province that is endorsed by the Ministry of Health. Although this move has been an EXTREME change of pace, the feeling and opportunity to improve healthcare provincially is pretty damn awesome!
12. I love being creative. Today I actually too some time to play with the good ol' sewing machine! Made a really cute shirt too!
13. This one is going to sound gross, but I know you fellow nurses can handle it. I hate dirty nails. HATE THEM. When I was a bedside nurse, nails was something I ALWAYS assessed - and treated - because they were always so nasty and full of shit!!!!
14. The over-sexualization of fitness and yoga and all that REALLY annoys me. It defeats what a workout really is all about.
15. I call my parents. These are the only people I call honestly haha. I make sure to call them every Sunday and we chat about our week. <3
16. I grew up in a military family, which meant that I moved around a lot when I was growing up. Born in Kingston, Ont., then moved to London, UK., then moved to Victoria, BC., then moved to Nova Scotia, Ont., then to Ottawa, Ont. My parents still live in Ottawa until this day. I hated moving as a kid, and I still hate it today in my adulthood. My husband has been a huge support in this aspect of my life. <3
17. Moving to Toronto for unique jobs was a great choice - an extremely hard and expensive one - but we will have this experience for our lifetimes.
18. I love to go hiking with my husband and dogs. Going out in nature with my small family rejuvenates me like nothing else in the world!
19. Hubby and I dream to move to the country in a year or so from now, and we dream of having a hobby farm! I would love to raise my kids on a farm and be able to be "self-sustainable".
20. I'm working towards going back to school to gather my RN's if it still financially makes sense! Hubby and I want to start up a business in Apothecary, and I would likely help him out with that, and continue to do nursing part time too!
Well there you have it. That was actually harder than I thought!
Let me know if anything I write relates to you! :)
